IELTS GRAMMAR BUNDLE

WHAT IS THE IELTS GRAMMAR BUNDLE?
The IELTS Grammar Bundle is a complete set of Anki flashcard decks designed to systematically build your English grammar from the foundational structures of Bands 1–3.5 all the way to the advanced grammatical range and precision required at Bands 7–9.
Based on research from linguists Stephen Krashen and Paul Nation, the IELTS Grammar Bundle will take you from CEFR A1 (beginner) through to C2 (mastery) — covering every grammar structure that IELTS examiners assess under the Grammatical Range and Accuracy band descriptor across Writing and Speaking.
Receive a discount by buying all 3 flashcard decks together. The bundle includes Essential Grammar (Bands 1–3.5), Intermediate Grammar (Bands 4–6.5), and Advanced Grammar (Bands 7–9) — the complete IELTS grammar pathway from A1 beginner to C2 mastery.
Every flashcard in the bundle features real English sentence examples for each grammar rule, a clear pop-up grammar explanation, and sentence audio and IPA to reinforce both your pronunciation and listening comprehension — supporting all four IELTS skills simultaneously.
WHAT ENGLISH GRAMMAR RULES DO I NEED FOR IELTS — AND WHY?
Grammar is one of the four band descriptors in both IELTS Writing and IELTS Speaking — worth 25% of your score in each. The Grammatical Range and Accuracy descriptor assesses two distinct things: the range of structures you use (how many different and complex grammatical forms you attempt) and the accuracy with which you use them (how few errors you make). To improve your band score in Writing and Speaking, you need both.
But attempting to learn all English grammar at once is overwhelming and inefficient. The solution — inspired by Paul Nation’s frequency-based approach to vocabulary learning — is to learn grammar rules according to their level of complexity and frequency of use, following the internationally recognised CEFR progression. The CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is the international standard for measuring English language proficiency, and its level structure maps directly onto the IELTS band scale:
| CEFR Level | Description | Approx. IELTS Band |
| A1 | Beginner | Bands 1–2 |
| A2 | Elementary | Bands 2.5–3.5 |
| B1 | Intermediate | Bands 4–5 |
| B2 | Upper-Intermediate | Bands 5.5–6.5 |
| C1 | Advanced | Bands 7–8 |
| C2 | Mastery | Bands 8.5–9 |
If you are a beginner IELTS candidate, it makes sense to start with A1–A2 grammar structures and build from there. As you progress, the next steps are B1–B2 and then C1–C2 — each level building directly on the one before it. The IELTS Grammar Bundle organises the most important and frequently used English grammar rules at every level from A1 through to C2, so you can progress in a structured, efficient, and confidence-building way.
We were inspired by Paul Nation’s research on word frequency — which shows that learning by frequency gives you the highest return on effort — and applied that same principle to grammar. Rather than overwhelming you with every possible English grammar rule, we identified and sequenced the rules that appear most frequently in real English use and that IELTS examiners most directly assess at each band level.
You save time and effort because we have organised all of the grammar rules, sentence examples, IPA, audio, and translations for you — all the way from A1 to C2. You can study incrementally, starting from your current level and gradually working up toward your target band. You get the confidence of knowing you have covered every grammar rule IELTS examiners assess, with no gaps.
According to the CEFR’s own level descriptions, when you reach C1 level you:
“Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.”
— C1 Level Description, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
And at C1, the CEFR also states that you:
“Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes.”
— C1 Level Description, Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
For IELTS candidates, C1 grammar competence is the threshold for Band 7 — the score required by most top universities, professional registration bodies, and skilled migration pathways. Reaching C1 grammar means your errors are infrequent, your range is wide, and your structures are complex — exactly what IELTS examiners are looking for when they award Band 7 or above for Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
HOW DOES THE IELTS GRAMMAR BUNDLE WORK?
The IELTS Grammar Bundle teaches you English grammar using 3 core principles, applied progressively from A1 through to C2. All 3 principles work together to build your grammatical range, accuracy, and fluency — the three qualities IELTS examiners are specifically assessing.
1. Learning “Pop-Up Grammar” When You Need It
Stephen Krashen from the University of Southern California generally recommends that language learners acquire grammar through comprehensible input — real sentences, conversations, and media. However, Krashen acknowledges that consciously learned grammar is still valuable, especially when you need to produce something correctly now and cannot wait for it to be naturally acquired. For IELTS candidates with a test date, this is almost always the situation.
Krashen identifies three key functions of consciously learned grammar:
- As a Monitor — helping you self-correct before or after producing language
- To make input more comprehensible — so real English makes sense sooner
- For language appreciation — developing metalinguistic awareness
Krashen argues that “pop-up grammar” — brief, clear rule explanations that take only a few seconds — serves all three of these functions without getting in the way of natural acquisition. For IELTS, the Monitor function is especially important: IELTS Writing and Speaking examiners reward candidates who self-correct, and that requires conscious awareness of the rules.
Every flashcard in the IELTS Grammar Bundle delivers pop-up grammar exactly when you need it. The front of each card presents a real English sentence containing the target grammar rule — your job is to check whether you understand it. If you do, you have acquired that rule and move on. If you need help, the back of the card provides a concise pop-up explanation, native audio, IPA, and a translation hint. Anki’s spaced repetition system then ensures you see each rule again at the optimal moment — more often for rules you find difficult, less often for rules you’ve already mastered.

2. Learning Grammar With Sentence-Based Flashcards
Krashen’s “input hypothesis” states that learners progress when they encounter language input that is slightly beyond their current level — what he calls “comprehensible input.” That is why every grammar rule in the IELTS Grammar Bundle is presented in the context of a real English sentence containing that rule. Real sentences are authentic language input — the same kind of input you will encounter in IELTS Reading passages and Listening recordings.

Each flashcard in the IELTS Grammar Bundle presents a real English sentence on the front — containing the target grammar rule highlighted within it. Your job is to check whether you understand the sentence and the grammar rule it contains, and whether you could produce the same structure yourself. If you can, the rule is acquired. If you need support, the back provides a pop-up grammar explanation, native audio, full IPA, and a translation hint.
Each deck is carefully sequenced so that the example sentences only use words and structures from the current deck and the ones that came before it. This means your comprehensible input becomes progressively richer and more complex — exactly as Krashen’s input hypothesis recommends — without ever overwhelming you with unfamiliar language.
3. Learning Grammar With Multiple Choice Sentences Flashcards
Many IELTS candidates make the same grammar errors repeatedly — not because they don’t know the rule, but because they have never been challenged to actively distinguish correct from incorrect usage in context. The Multiple Choice Sentences flashcard type shows you 2 very similar English sentences, one grammatically correct and one wrong, and requires you to identify which is which.
If you’re unsure, the back of the card reveals the correct sentence, native audio, IPA, the English translation, and a clear explanation of why one sentence is correct and the other is not. This active discrimination training directly mirrors what IELTS Writing examiners do when they assess Grammatical Range and Accuracy — and what IELTS Listening tests when a single grammatical word changes the meaning of an answer.
At the advanced C1–C2 level, these pairs often involve structures that are both technically grammatical but contextually or stylistically distinct — training the kind of sophisticated grammatical judgment that distinguishes a Band 7 response from a Band 6.5. As a result, you make fewer errors, produce more precise language, and approach the IELTS exam with far greater grammatical confidence.
